Walk to Lake Ragginger See near Elixhausen
Walk to Lake Ragginger near Elixhausen
Two years ago, as part of the ORF Salzburg series “119 Plätze, 119 Schätze” (“119 places, 119 treasures”), Elixhausen named Lake Ragginger its most beautiful place, and with good reason. No matter the season, a cosy walk to this idyllic lake reveals wonderful views, natural beauty and many a small sight between heaven and earth.
The walk from the GMACHL to the lake
Allow for around 45 minutes of pure walking time per route for this approx. 3-km-long walk from our Romantik Hotel GMACHL in central Elixhausen to the Ragginger See. Walk from the village centre to the Weichenberg, continue to the Ehrengraben and take the Voggenbergstrasse to reach the Winding district. Now turn right into the Windingstrasse and after a few minutes you will find yourself at the small, interconnected lakes. From here you can enjoy the divine view of Bergheim and the imposing mountains of the Loferer Steinberger, Chiemgau Alps, Staufen and Untersberg.
Small natural wonders and the old observatory
You can extend the lake walk as far as you like, since there are several small highlights waiting for you to turn this into a truly unforgettable trip to the Elixhausen hinterland. We particularly recommend the following three natural and interstellar sights:
- Ursprunger Moor: Situated around 500 m from the lake, this bog is one of the Flachgau region’s last remaining raised bogs. Given its peat thickness, experts believe that it is over 5,000 years old. Here you can see a different side of the regional flora and fauna.
- High route to the Mattigtal: This very high route that today leads to the Mattigtal in the Innviertal has likely existed since the Neolithic Age, as evidenced by several findings near the lake, such as a bronze winged axe.
- Observatory on the Voggenberg: Hidden away in a non-descript house, approx. 5 minutes from the Windiggut, a powerful telescope invites visitors to fascinating space observations from Wednesday to Sunday.
Lake Ragginger is one of the region’s most beautiful recreational areas and is always worth a visit. Your GMACHL team will gladly dazzle you with further walking and excursion tips. Request your non-binding holiday offer today!
