The 2019 Gaisberg Race for classic car fans

The 2019 Gaisberg Race  wows Salzburg’s classic car fans with stunning vehicles and gripping racing action from 30 May to 1 June.

 

The Gaisberg is among the most beautiful hiking and panoramic mountains of the city of Mozart. An amazing ascent, numerous round tours and glorious views make Salzburg’s city mountains special. From 30 May to 1 June, however, classic cars will take over when the Gaisberg Race 2019 hits the mountain, the Salzburgring and the city itself. Focused driving performance, a palpable love for motor sports and genuine four-wheeled classics will amaze participants and spectators alike.

 

An eventful history: The Gaisberg Race then and now

The first race on the Gaisberg on 6 September 1929 was all about speed. The best time won, leading to many spectacular but also dangerous situations. Several fatal accidents occurred up to the final race in September 1969, leading to a clear decline in audience interest. The Gaisberg Race Salzburg was not revived until 2013 when it was turned into a regularity race. Having the lowest deviation from the set time after all stages wins the race.

 

Gaisberg Race 2019 in five stages

Those wanting to win the Gaisberg Race must drive with precision and focus while avoiding dipping below the target times. Beating the clock is a highly thrilling challenge for several vehicle categories – touring cars, sports cars and racing cars, each with the categories “up to 1945” and “from 1946 to 1969”. Providing even more excitement, five stages are held adding up to a total time:

  • 30 May: After the vehicle presentation, the City Grand Prix leads onto a spectacular round course between the two bridges Staatsbrücke and Karolingerbrücke from 3 pm.
  • 31 May: Two stages on the Gaisberg take place at 8.30 am and 2 pm.
  • 1 June: After completing the Salzburgring stage (8.30 am), one final stage on the Gaisberg from 2 pm caps off the race.
