Beginner-friendly ski tour in the city of Salzburg
The mountains around the city of Salzburg mostly have a moderate terrain – ideal for beginners and slightly more experienced ski touring mountaineers who want to enjoy the view and nature to the fullest. We strongly recommend that you complete avalanche training and touring courses before you start. Please also pay close attention to the current avalanche report in order to avoid unpleasant surprises. If in doubt, please only tour the mountain while accompanied by a local guide!
Our ski tour to the Untersberg in Fürstenbrunn takes about 4.5 hours. You will cover about 12.7 km and 1,450 altitude metres en route to the Hochthron. Starting at the car park at the southern limits of Fürstenbrunn, things start off rather relaxed alongside the Kühbach stream below a road. Continue straight ahead at another car park, then take a sharp right turn. A tricky steep hill waits for you – short but intensive. Continuing from there, the less frequented slope meanders a little more moderately up to the Untersberg. Forest and flatter sections alternate before you reach the summit. The descent on the ski slope is rather pleasant. You can take the flatter, more beginner-friendly slope on the left for the last couple of hundred metres.
The ski tour to the Untersberg is only one of many amazing touring activities around Salzburg. All city mountains and the picturesque surrounding ski regions are mostly easy-going in terms of ascents. The GMACHL team will gladly put you in touch with local mountain guides and ski schools with a focus on touring. Have you already requested your non-binding winter offer?
