Hiking on the Haunsberg for everyone
Welcome to the foothills of the Alps
If you’re thinking about the alpine masses with their tall summits, an altitude of 835 m is nothing to write home about. The Haunsberg with its panorama path in the scenic foothills of the Alps still incites enthusiasm. The two ascents from Obertrum and Nussdorf can be quite challenging for cyclists and bikers yet are easily conquered by car. The curvy, in places rather narrow road provides many a thrill, even for athletic cyclists. Once on top, spacious parking grounds with a gorgeous view and many a neat highlight awaits you.
Walking tour on the Haunsberg panorama path
The around 5 km long round path (approx. walking time 1.5 hours) starts at the Kaiserbuche inn’s parking area. It used to be the site of the eponymous Kaiserbuche – a humongous old common beech tree planted around 1791 in honour of Emperor Joseph II – which was sadly felled by a storm in 2004. A successor has been growing and thriving for ten years. The panorama path itself runs rather smoothly with only a few brief inclines. Instead of ascents, it offers gorgeous views across the wide Salzburg Lake District, the Salzkammergut, Osterhorngruppe mountain range and the Salzburger Becken valley. Learn fascinating facts about the scenery, the forest and its mountains, the geology and history of the region along the numbered stages. Charming attractions, such as the high seat, the telescope and the wooden animals, make walking around the Haunsberg popular with everyone.
The experience of walking the Haunsberg perfectly lends itself to a neat half-day trip as the stunning path is less than a 20-minute drive from Romantik Hotel GMACHL.
