Unlimited winter fun tobogganing in Salzburg
The best runs in the region
There are so many neat little hills and mounds inviting you to go tobogganing in Salzburg. Young guests in particular love racing across the snow only to head back uphill for the next round. And another one. And another one. Numerous toboggan runs in Salzburg offer the perfect conditions for many an exciting ride down into the valley. The GMACHL team presents a few select options near the hotel and the most popular runs in alpine areas.
Tobogganing around the city
There many options for winter tobogganing in Salzburg in both the city and its surroundings. These small hills and large runs around our hotel are known to impress:
- Krauthügel in Nonntal:
Forget the city mountains, the Krauthügel in the district Nonntal is likely the neatest tobogganing option for children. Having the fortress behind you and the Gaisberg to your left, you race down the neat hill.
- Faistenauer Schafberg:
The popular winter village of Faistenau is home to several natural toboggan runs. Among the most beautiful and popular is the one en route to the Schafberg. Rent a toboggan at the former Schafbachalm, then race approx. 1.5 km down into the valley.
Idyllic Golling is home to two inviting natural toboggan runs. Slide 1.5 km to the Schwarzerberg from the Berggasthof Bachrain or race 1 km through the district Moosegg on the Hochreith natural toboggan run.
- Gschwandt in Kuchl:
This 4-km-long run is at the border to Upper Austria. The ascent to this insider’s tip isn’t too steep and takes about an hour. Two hairpin bends in the lower part make tobogganing in Salzburg particularly exciting, yet this run isn’t too difficult.
- Sausteigalm Faistenau:
Combine an enjoyable hike onto the Sausteigalm in picturesque Faistenau with a fun ride back down into the valley. Rent your toboggan on site at Sporthaus Auer, and after a brief stop at the alp, race downhill for approx. 2.5 km!
- Natural toboggan run Fuschl am See:
Small but nice: The natural toboggan meadow isn’t too fancy being only 300 m long and only rideable if there’s enough snow. Yet the view alone makes stomping up the hill below Haus Meissnitzer in Ellmaustrasse worthwhile.
Trip to the mountains
But that’s not all tobogganing in Salzburg has to offer by a long shot! It will hardly come as a surprise that you’ll find most of the speedy highlights in more alpine terrain. Reach the following runs in one to one and a half hours by car:
- Wildkogel-Arena Bramberg:
Not only the longest toboggan slide in Salzburg, but the entire world: Conquer 14 easy to medium kilometres at the Smaragdbahn valley station. Open until 10 pm!
Neat tobogganing is possibly throughout almost the whole of Pongau. Take the gondola to the Sportalm – with a little rest stop, if you like, before going 6 km downhill.
- Reiterkogel Saalbach Hinterglemm:
Situated in the heart of the Ski resort, borrow special toboggans at the valley station before travelling into dizzying heights. 3.2 thrilling kilometres await you.
- Krimml natural toboggan run:
2.2 km might sound rather short in comparison, but the route down the Schönmoosalm is stunning. Race down this illuminated natural toboggan run into the sleepy village centre until 11 pm.
Tobogganing in Salzburg right through the forest – don’t miss out on a trip to Werfenweg! The run at the Strussingalm leads you through primed forest areas. During the day the glorious view of the Tennengebirge will enchant you.
