The world-renowned Salzburg Festival was born in 1920. Max Reinhardt acts as director when the famous “Jedermann” by Hugo von Hofmannsthal is performed in Salzburg for the first time on 20 August.
Max Reinhardt came up with the idea to perform this particular play every summer with the best singers and actors in the world. Today the Salzburg Festival is considered Europe’s most important festival for operas, plays and concerts.
This exceptional cultural event takes place in Salzburg every August. It does not only showcase the great operas and plays of old, but also important contemporary works. Furthermore the most famous internationals musicians perform in concert. Alongside the original Salzburg Festival in summer, the city also hosts the Easter Festival and the Whitsun Festival in spring. The latter presents – under the musical direction of Ricardo Muti – a series concerts dedicated to the masterpieces of the Neapolitan on an annual basis.
